Iodine Px
Provides essential mineral and nutrient precursors to support proper thyroid hormone synthesis. Contains 60% Iodine and 40% Iodide.
- Supports Thyroid Function
- T3-T4 Hormone Conversion
- Sodium-Iodide Symporter
Iodine Px still has the same formula, which contains 12.5 mg of iodine, but after extensive review of the science, Restorative Formulations determined that all iodine present is in the natural form as iodide. As verified by an independent lab, when any dry form of iodine (I2) is dissolved in solution (as occurs in the digestive process), it is entirely converted to the iodide form. As a result, we updated the label on Iodine Px to more accurately reflect the true form of iodine present. Physiologically, once in the body, iodine (I2) must be converted to the more usable form, iodide (I-). Not only can this process be oxidative, there also is no research which definitively supports a clinical advantage to consuming both forms of iodine.
Iodine is essential for a variety of functions in the body such as overall metabolism, growth, and cognitive development. Iodine is used by the body to synthesize the thyroid hormones T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine). The nutritional cofactors in Iodine Px support the organification of iodine as well as the sodium-iodide symporter. Selenium is an essential component of the enzyme iodothyronine deiodinase, which is important for the conversion of T4 (inactive) to T3 (active). In this way, selenium may help to maintain thyroid hormone stability. Copper is included to help to control multiple hormone levels. Riboflavin is important for the production of flavoproteins (e.g., FMN and FAD) and the activation of B6. It is also responsible for the coenzyme conversion of tryptophan to niacin, and folate to tetrahydrofolate.
